Dragonflight Beta Feedback 16 September 2022: Rogues, Monks, Druids, Shamans & Hunters

The blues went to the Dragonflight forums and responded to feedback, posting another batch of changes that will be coming to Rogues, Monks, Druids, Shamans and Hunters in the upcoming builds!

There are a few notable changes here, with talent position changes being more clear, and some less clear from the picture alone, which we’ll point out.

We’ve heard significant discussion around this talent, the degree to which it isn’t very compelling (even situationally), and the ways in which it clashes with other talent on the class tree and spec trees. As a result, it’s been redesigned:

Cheat Death is certainly compelling, and players have pointed out how it puts undue emphasis on the Subtlety-themed side of the tree. The solution we’ve decided on is to move it up the tree to a more accessible spot (previously occupied by Recuperator), but now as a choice against the similarly-powerful Elusiveness. Recuperator has moved to the previous position of Elusiveness, and a reworked version of Soothing Darkness is taking the previous position Cheat Death.

There are few more positional changes.

As it turns out, neither talent is well-suited to being positioned on a main highway. Deeper Stratagem is joining Marked for Death, as a choice node:

Improved Ambush is taking the position Deeper Stratagem was in. Nightstalker and Tight Spender are swapping positions and point costs as a result, with slightly adjusted values to accommodate.

Beyond positional changes, a few talents have had costs changed.

Lethality and Alacrity have become 2-point talents. Lethality remains the same per-point value, and Alacrity has had numbers slightly adjusted to accommodate the change (most notably, granting up to 8% Haste at max stacks).

Sold. Resounding Clarity is now a 1-point talent, and causes Echoing Reprimand to Animacharge 3 additional combo points.

Something that we’re aware of as a potential knock-on effect of this and the other above changes, is Echoing Reprimand becoming more appealing to take in some builds than it was before. For those who don’t mind the one-Animacharge minigame of Echoing Reprimand but don’t want to feel forced into the full four-Animacharge version, we’re considering adding Reverberation (formerly a Conduit) with an appropriate value to go up against Resounding Clarity as a choice node.

Feedback: Monks

Hello Mistweaver Monks! We have a few updates to the Mistweaver spec tree coming in the next beta build. We’d like to take a moment and discuss our upcoming changes and the philosophy behind them.

2 Point Node Positioning:

The 2-point node placement on this tree has been a little tricky to get into what we feel is the right spot. Overflowing Mists is a situationally powerful bonus, so we don’t want it controlling pathing in the bottom of the tree. Resplendent Mist felt like its use cases were more universal than its positioning. Peaceful Mending shouldn’t block off any pathways but should feel like it contributes to navigating down the tree if selected.

To accommodate these principles, we’ve moved Overflowing Mist back up to above gate 2, Resplendent Mist has moved to the node below Ancient Teachings of the Monastery and Clouded Focus, and Peaceful Mending is occupying a new connection on the right side of the tree that is not exclusively blocking any pathing below. This new pathing has also enabled Bountiful Brew and Attenuation to move up and directly connect to Bonedust Brew.

Jade Bond:

We’ve been steadily moving most of Jade Bond’s value to its Gust of Mist/Soothing Breath bonus. The dichotomy we’re looking for on this choice node is more frequent access via Gift of the Celestials versus more impactful access via Jade Bond. We’re hopefully continued tuning can get us there.

Unison:

We’ve made this into a choice node with Restorative Proliferation to make the middle path towards Invoker’s Delight slightly more appealing for all builds. Unison being on its own may have felt like a choice limiter to some builds who were interested in pursuing Invoker’s Delight.

Tea of Plenty:

We’re interested in pursuing this “random bag of goodies” design but felt the swing of expected value from this ability was too large, especially with the reintroduction of Essence Font to Thunder Focus Tea. In future beta builds, we’ve split Tea of Plenty’s effect into a choice node of two spells.

Tea of Serenity will give Thunder Focus Tea an extra charge of Renewing Mist, Enveloping Mist, or Vivify. Tea of Plenty will give Thunder Focus Tea an extra charge of Renewing Mist, Rising Sun Kick, or Essence Font. Hopefully this will maintain the same feel of the talent while allowing players to customize more towards their desired outcome.

Here’s the new layout you can expect to see:

  • Tea of Serenity. New Talent, Row 10. Thunder Focus Tea also grants Renewing Mist, Enveloping Mist, and Vivify 1 extra charge at random.

We have some upcoming changes to the talent tree to share with you. Thank you very much for all your feedback on the current version of the talent tree. There have been lots of thoughtful, informative posts in places like this thread and the Druid forums that really helped us understand your experiences with the tree and what you’re hoping to do with it. It’s very much appreciated.

Left Side and Right Side of the Talent Tree

We heard your feedback that the left and right sides of the tree feel too heavily weighted toward single target and AOE respectively. We like the two sides of the tree having a clear identity, but we want players to have paths to get talents they want from either side in either situation, so we’ve moved talents around to facilitate taking some talents from both sides in both ST and AOE.

Energy and Combo Points

Opening up both sides of the tree to both ST and AOE builds also let us give the two sides of the tree different flavors of resource generation. If you want to empower Tiger’s Fury and generate more combo points, those talents are on the left. If you want more Energy, there’s more of those talents on the right.

We want investing in Energy or combo points to be intentional choices players make, rather than something they pick up automatically on the way to other talents. With that in mind we moved Tiger’s Tenacity (formerly Eye of Fearful Symmetry) and provided alternative pathing options to reach Feral Frenzy and Apex Predator’s Craving.

Berserk

We want Berserk to be a powerful, broadly valuable, rotation-impacting cooldown. It currently suffers in AOE because none of Feral’s AOE builders benefit from Berserk, so we updated it to make Swipe generate a bonus combo point the same way Shred does. Changes to Tiger’s Tenacity (formerly Eye of Fearful Symmetry) and the new Relentless Predator also give consistent options to players who are looking for more resources during Berserk.

Tuning

We’ve made tuning changes to some talents in this revision, and while there will be more tuning to come, we want to speak to some of what we’re trying to accomplish. In general, we don’t want any talent to be so powerful or impactful that all players feel obligated to pick it. That dampens choice and build diversity. This brings us to Convoke the Spirits and Soul of the Forest.

Convoke is an extremely powerful single button to press in Shadowlands, and it remains so in Dragonflight. Its current version with Celestial Spirits is too strong for 2 talent points. Our first attempt at tuning this was to not include the cooldown reduction from Celestial Spirits, but we hear you that a 1 minute Convoke is appealing and fits well in rotations, and that the Convoke bonus in Ashamane’s Guidance is underwhelming, so we re-added it. To bring down the power of the current version, we’ve removed the ability for Convoke to cast Tiger’s Fury. There are several talents that benefit Tiger’s Fury, and removing it from Convoke allows us to keep those strong because Convoke isn’t increasing its uptime dramatically.

Soul of the Forest is a power outlier because of the massive Energy generation it provides, pushing it into “obligatory” range. We’d like investing in Energy to be something players can choose to do at multiple points throughout the tree, so we’re toning down Soul of the Forest.

Miscellaneous

Double-Clawed Rake has been moved to make it easier to pick up. Lunar Inspiration has been moved to a more natural place for a DoT cleave build. Scent of Blood’s benefit was very niche, so we replaced it with Relentless Predator, which reduces the energy cost of Ferocious Bite, to provide an energy generation option with more general value. Infected Wounds has been moved under Sudden Ambush.

New Tree Layout

Here’s the new tree layout and a list of changes in the next build:

Row 2:

  • Primal Claws (formerly Piercing Claws) moved to Row 2.
  • Primal Claws no longer grants crit. Each point now grants a 10% chance for combo point generators to generate an extra combo point.

Row 3:

  • Merciless Strikes (formerly Improved Bleeds) now increases Swipe damage against bleeding targets by 10%, down from 20%. There are other talents to boost Swipe elsewhere in the tree, and we don’t want this to be an autopick in AOE.
  • Predator moved to row 3.
  • Double-Clawed Rake moved to row 3.

Row 4:

  • Protective Growth moved to row 4. Damage reduction increased from 3% to 5%.
  • Tireless Energy moved to row 4. No longer grants haste. Points now increase maximum Energy by 30/60 and passive Energy regeneration by 10%/20%.
  • Pouncing Strikes moved to row 4.
  • Lunar Inspiration moved to row 4.

Row 5:

  • Rampant Ferocity (formerly Ferocious Frenzy) moved to row 5.
  • Berserk now causes Swipe to generate an additional combo point during Berserk.

Row 6:

  • Infected Wounds moved to row 6.
  • Dreadful Bleeding moved to row 6.
  • Relentless Predator is a new talent in row 6. Relentless Predator reduces Energy costs of Ferocious Bite by 20%. This includes both the base cost and the additional Energy that can be spent for bonus damage.

Row 7:

  • Tiger’s Tenacity (was Eye of Fearful Symmetry) changed to a 1 point talent and moved to be part of a choice node with Raging Fury (look at that choice icon!). Now causes Tiger’s Fury to grant 1 combo point after your next 3 finishers (up from 1 for your next 2 for each point).

Row 8:

  • Frantic Momentum changed to a 2 point talent and moved to row 8. Now grants a 3%/6% chance per combo point spent to increase your Haste by 10% for 6 sec.
  • Cat’s Curiosity now recovers 25% of energy cost for abilities it affects for each point, up from 15%.

Row 9:

  • Convoke the Spirits can no longer cast Tiger’s Fury.
  • Soul of the Forest now grants 3 Energy per combo point spent, down from 5.
  • Rip and Tear: Applying Rip to a target applies a Tear that deals 6% of the new Rip’s damage over 6 seconds. (Was a flat amount.)

Row 10:

  • Moved Feral Frenzy & Apex Predator’s Craving to row 10 and added some routing options.
  • Unbridled Swarm is now a single point talent and grants a 60% chance for swarms to split.
  • Ashamane’s Guidance now also reduces Convoke the Spirit’s cooldown by 50%.

Renamed Talents

  • Improved Bleeds is now Merciless Strikes
  • Ferocious Frenzy is now Rampant Ferocity
  • Eye of Fearful Symmetry is now Tiger’s Tenacity
  • Bite Force is now Lion’s Strength

Removed Talents

  • Scent of Blood

Hello Restoration Druids!

We’ve made a few adjustments to the updated Restoration Druid tree based on recent feedback, and we’d like to discuss the upcoming changes you can expect to see.

Node Positioning:

We’ve changed the positioning of a few key nodes to better reflect their power level. For example, Nurturing Dormancy will be moving below Gate 2 and Rampant Growth will be moving above Gate 2. These shifts are also intended to open a few improved pathing options for builds that may have seen some pathways particularly limiting.

Final Gate:

The positioning of nodes in the final gate has changed quite a bit. Much of the same structure is in place, but there are more connections between nodes. We felt it was better to have nodes always leading you further down in this case. Unbridled Swarm has also been reduced to a 1-point node with its full effect.

Cenarius’ Guidance:

The last Not Yet Implented (NYI) spell on the Restoration Druid tree will be ready for testing in the next build. Like the Feral Druid tree, this restores the full functionality of the Celestial Spirits legendary as well as offering a bonus to Incarnation: Tree of Life depending on your choice in the preceding node.

Here’s a look at the new layout:

  • Cenarius’ Guidance. New Talent, row 9. During Incarnation: Tree of Life, you gain Clearcasting every 6 sec. The cooldown of Incarnation: Tree of Life is reduced by 1.5 seconds when Lifebloom blooms or 1.0 seconds when Regrowth’s initial heal critically strikes. Convoke the Spirits’ cooldown is reduced by 50% and its duration and number of spells cast is reduced by 25%. Convoke the Spirits has an increased chance to use an exceptional spell or ability.

A minor change is coming next week for Elemental Blast and Lava Burst interactions in the Enhancement Shaman tree.

Elemental Blast and Lava Burst on their own are not changing. If you take both talents, Elemental Blast will replace Lava Burst, and Elemental Blast will have 2 charges.

Elemental Blast and Lava burst are not changing for Elemental Shaman, they will remain separate spells. This is an Enhancement specific change.

  • Nesingwary’s Trapping Apparatus has been removed.
  • Serrated Shots has moved to where Nesingwary’s Trapping Apparatus was.
  • Sentinel Owl and the choice node below it have moved up 1 row.
    • Sentinel Owl and its choice node are no longer NYI, but still have some issues to be work out.
    • Sentinel’s Wisdom has changed in design. It now grants your party 5% leech and 10% magic damage reduction (everything except Physical) while the Sentinel Owl is active.
  • Binding Shot is now a 3 sec stun (see earlier post about Binding Shot)
  • New 1-point Talent: Entrapment. When your Tar Trap is activated, all enemies in the Tar Trap’s area are rooted for 4 sec. This root can break from taking damage, and is magic dispellable.

Beast Mastery

  • Wailing Arrow silence lowered from 5 to 3 sec, and the tooltip now clarifies it only silences non-player targets.
  • Qa’pla, Eredun War Order should now work.
  • The pet damage reduction from Animal Companion no longer reduces the damage dealt by other summoned creatures. How Animal Companion pet damage modifier works with Call of the Wild is still being worked out.

Marksmanship

  • Lone Wolf and Hunter’s Knowledge have swapped spots again.
  • Wailing Arrow silence lowered from 5 to 3 sec, and the tooltip now clarifies it only silences non-player targets.

Things to Do in the Shadowlands When You’re (Mostly) Dead

Blizzard has posted an update on what will become unavailable when prepatch launches, when Dragonflight launches and what’ll become more difficult to obtain. Sadly they did not provide any release dates but these warnings usually come 1 to 2 months before a prepatch launches, so take that as you will! No matter the date, there’s a limited amount of time to obtain what you still need from season 4!

Leave the Shadowlands a Better Place

The Feat of Strength meta-achievement Back from the Beyond will no longer be obtainable, along with the Veilstrider title. Most achievement requirements can be completed solo, and you can use the Raid Finder to complete any raiding requirements. For the Mythic Dungeon achievements, you’ll want to recruit allies and have an average item level of at least 250 or higher to get it.

Meet Your Fate Before You Go

The Fates of the Shadowlands Raids achievement (along with its rewards) goes away when Dragonflight launches. Rewards for earning this achievement include the Jigglesworth Sr. mount (Normal), the Hero of Fate title (Heroic), and Shadowlands Raid Teleports (Mythic).

Grab a New Crab on the Way Out

The Carcinized Zerethsteed mount quest item, obtained from defeating the Jailer on Heroic difficulty or above, will no longer be available. The Jailer is the last boss in the Sepulcher of the First Ones, located in Zereth Mortis. To take on Zovaal, you’ll need at least a 10-player raid with an average item level of 275 or higher if the raid is Fated.

Catch a Fallen Star

Get the We Are All Made of Stars Heroic and Mythic achievements (available on both non-Fated and Fated raids) while you still can. To attain this achievement, gather your allies and defeat Rygelon in Sepulcher of the First Ones while under the effects of Herald of the Cosmos. Everyone must stay alive throughout the encounter, or else the raid fails. But don’t worry! Unlike past Immortal achievements, you can reset the encounter and try again.

Season 4 Rated PvP Achievements and Rewards

Eternal Gladiator’s Soul Eater Mount and Title

The Eternal Gladiator’s Soul Eater mount and the Eternal Gladiator title are not long for this world. You’ll want to be the top champion and win fifty 3v3 games at Elite rank to earn these rewards.

Weapon Illusion: Eternal Flux

If you’re after the weapon illusion: Eternal Flux, there’s still time. You can earn this illusion when you reach a 2,100 rating.

Season 4 Elite PvP Armor Set

The full transmog of the Season 4 Elite PvP Armor set can be unlocked at a 2,100 rating.

Going Away with Dragonflight Pre-patch

Before the Dragonflight Pre-Patch, brave champions who have not already received Mythic+ achievements and rewards will want to do so before they fade away.

With the death of Zovaal the Jailer and the ascension of a new Arbiter, the Shadowlands is returning to its Great Purpose. Some deathwalkers recognize the role that mortal heroes have played and are willing to serve as mounts. Players wishing to earn the Restoration Deathwalker mount must reach the 2,000 M+ rating.

Last Stop, All Passengers Must Depart

Completing the Mythic Keystone level 20 or higher within the time limit, thus awarding portals to Grimrail Depot, Iron Docks, Operation: Mechagon, Return to Karazhan, and Tazavesh will be going away when Season 4 ends.

Difficulty Increasing When Dragonflight Launches

Before you venture back into the land of the living (and Dragons), you’ll want to make sure that you try to earn the rewards listed below before the ability to acquire them increases once Dragonflight launches.

Once the Dragonflight pre-expansion update arrives, all Shadowlands raids will become Fated for the rest of the expansion. This may make these mounts more challenging to attain, but the bosses are guaranteed to each drop two mounts until Dragonflight launches.

Upon launch, the guaranteed drop rate for Vengeance’s Reins obtained from defeating Mythic Sylvanas and the Fractal Cypher of the Zereth Overseer mount obtained from defeating Mythic Jailer will see a significant decrease. The number of dropped mounts will be reduced to one (currently two).

Vengeance served Sylvanas well, and now the ebony dragonhawk can serve you when you take the Dark Lady down. To defeat Sylvanas in Sanctum of Domination on Mythic difficulty, you’ll want to recruit 20 of your bravest allies to enter the raid, and it’s recommended that all players are at least 278 item level or higher.

Enigmatic and aloof, this construct of the First Ones flies on a graceful stream of perfect geometric understanding. To get this mount, gather 20 of your strongest allies and take the fight to The Jailer on Mythic difficulty in Sepulcher of the First Ones. It is recommended that players are at least 265 item level or higher.

Dragonflight Beta: New End-game Testing Realm, Development Notes, Feedback: Priests & Dragonriding, Season 1 Mythic+ Dungeon Pool Datamined

A new build was launched on the beta last night and along with the usual development note updates, a new end-game testing realm was launched that will start with a focus on the new rated solo shuffle, the priests thread got a blue post explaining change philosophies and a couple of changes were posted in the dragonriding thread. Dataminers also found the full list of dungeons that will be in the Dragonflight Season 1 Mythic+ dungeon pool!

        • Hunters can now tame a new pet type: Lesser Dragonkin.
          • Lesser Dragonkin are a Ferocity pet.
          • Lesser Dragonkin have a new pet family ability, Shimmering Scales – Reduces your pet’s magic damage taken by 70% for 8 seconds, on a 90 second cooldown.
          • Cloud Serpents have had their pet family changed from Serpents to Lesser Dragonkin, but the ability to tame Cloud Serpents has not been changed in any way.
          • Lesser Dragonkin taming is currently planned to be a reward from the Valdrakken faction.
          • Lesser Dragonkin includes creatures like the new Hornswogs from Dragonflight, or the Feathered Drakes in Ardenweald, or even some of the Faerie Dragons in places like Feralas.
        • Wing Clip Focus cost reduced by 10. This was a rank 2 upgrade that was incorrectly not baked into Wing Clip.
      • Class Tree
        • Improved Traps and Rejuvenating Wind should actually have their places swapped.
        • Concussive Shot will now replace Wing Clip, and no longer requires a ranged weapon.
        • Fortitude of the Bear should have all of its interactions properly setup now with Command Pet, Tenacity pets, as well as Lone Wolf Marksmanship Hunters.
    • MONK
      • Class Tree
        • Developers’ note: Additional connections have been made in several areas to allow more free-form navigation of the talent tree as a whole. We’ve enjoyed seeing your creative builds, and look forward to seeing what you can do with the increased connectivity.
        • Vivacious Vivification now grants an instant Vivify once every 10 seconds.
          • Developers’ note: We really liked the idea of pushing Vivify as a more responsive heal, but Vivacious Vivification as a 100%, always-on reduction to the cast time of Vivify was reducing the decision space for the class as a whole and completely obsoleting Soothing Mist in particular. With this change, we hope to strike a balance of allowing players a skill-testing emergency heal they’re excited to invest into, while still making more sustained with multiple Vivifies a more significant investment that will encourage using the full breadth of the toolkit.
        • Expel Harm moved back to baseline for all Monks.
          • Developers’ note: The prior positioning of Expel Harm was too restrictive and forced the selection of other abilities.
        • Heavy Air replaced with Vigorous Expulsion.
          • Developers’ note: While we were excited about offering additional range and control of the battlefield, player feedback was clear that this talent didn’t feel valuable enough to invest in.
        • Vigorous Expulsion increases the healing of Expel Harm by 5% and the critical strike chance of Expel Harm by 15%.
        • Strength of Spirit increases the healing of Expel Harm by up to 200% based on current maximum health. Moved to the Class Tree from Brewmaster.
        • Profound Rebuttal increases the critical healing of Expel Harm by 50%.
          • Developers’ note: With Expel Harm once again baseline, we’ve taken the opportunity to offer improvements to the ability throughout the tree.
        • Disable has been moved to Row 2.
        • Paralysis has been moved to Row 3.
        • Paralysis Rank 2 has been moved to Row 4.
          • Developers’ note: Players offered feedback that Paralysis and its upgrade didn’t feel optional even in situations where they would not be useful, so we’ve rearranged the tree to increase overall choice.
        • White Tiger Statue damage has been reduced by 75%.
          • Developers’ note: White Tiger Statue is intended to be a solid contributor, but was doing a little too well in some situations. We continue to tweak value to find this cat a new home.
      • Windwalker
        • Multiple talents have been updated to address issues.
        • Touch of the Tiger, Flashing Fists, and Hardened Soles now correctly persist through zone transfer.
        • Shadowboxing Treads, Jade Ignition, Xuen’s Bond, Bone Dust Brew, Attenuation, Bone Marrow Hops, Last Emperor’s Capacitor, Keefer’s Skyreach, Xuen’s Battlegear, and Way of the Fae now again function outside the Shadowlands.
        • Glory of the Dawn has been updated to scale with the Monk’s attack power, rather than using a flat value
        • Open Palm Strikes has been converted to a percentage bonus to Fists of Fury Damage.
        • Meridian Strikes has been converted to a percentage bonus to Touch of Death.
        • Resolved an issue where Power Strikes was not correctly re-applying the bonus effect.

        • Holy Shield now requires having a shield equipped to use.

        • Holy Shield will now allow you to block creatures that deal non-physical auto attack damage, such as if a Fire Elemental melee attacks you as Fire damage.

        • Mind Spike – No longer removes damage over time effects. Critical Strike chance bonus to Mind Blast moved to Mind Melt.
        • Mind Melt – The tooltip has been updated. Mind Spike reduces the cast time of your next Mind Blast by 50%, and increases its critical strike chance by 50%, stacking up to 2 times. Lasts 10 seconds.
        • Derangement – Increases Mind Sear damage by 20% instead of increasing its cast speed.
        • Mind Sear – Updated Mind Sear behavior for a better experience. Added extra initial tick. Now costs Insanity immediately and cancels as soon as the Priest doesn’t have enough Insanity.
        • Mind Devourer – Now a 1-point node with a 15% trigger chance. The trigger effect now affects Devouring Plague or Mind Sear.
        • Shadowy Apparitions – Fixed a bug that caused periodic Devouring Plague to spawn Shadowy Apparitions.

        • Stormkeeper, Healing Stream Totem, and Cloudburst Totem should now properly grant 2 charges of the ability when talenting into both nodes on the talent tree.
      • Enhancement
        • Swirling Maelstrom reduced to 1 stack of Maelstrom Weapon (was 2). Fire Nova interaction clarified that it is 1 stack per Fire Nova caused rather than per Fire Nova ability cast.
        • Feral Lunge is now below Windfury Weapon rather than below Stormflurry.
        • Windfury Totem trigger chance is now back up to 20%. This is also a rank 2 that got lost.
        • Crash Lightning has had the following adjustments:
          • Cooldown increased to 12 seconds (was 9 seconds).
          • Crash Lightning’s buff from hitting 2 or more targets is now 12 seconds (was 10 seconds).
          • Ice Strike can now also cause the bonus damage from Crash Lightning.
          • The initial damage, as well as the bonus damage from Stormstrike, Lava Lash, and Ice Strike has been increased.
          • The initial damage as well as the bonus damage from Stormstrike, Lava Lash, and Ice Strike now deals reduced damage when you are fighting more than 6 targets.
    • WARRIOR
      • Class Developer Notes
        • We’ve decided to remove Skull Banner, the general consensus across sources of feedback has not been particularly positive and we’ve struggled to find the right home for Skull Banner in each of the talent trees. Therefore, we’ve decided to remove it.
        • No other major updates, some tweaks and bug fixes as we are generally satisfied with the Warrior class tree…
        • We may still switch adjust talent node positions as we move throughout the Beta and monitor feedback.
      • Class Tree
        • Cruel Strikes – Now increases Critical Strike chance by 1% and increases the critical strike damage of Execute by 5% per rank.
        • Quick Thinking – Now increases Haste by 1% and your auto attack critical strikes increase your auto attack speed by 10% for 10 seconds per rank.
        • Frothing Berserker: Arms Variant – Mortal Strike and Cleave have a 20% chance to immediately refund 20% of the Rage spent.
        • Frothing Berserker: Fury Variant – Rampage has a 20% chance to immediately refund 20% of the Rage spent.
        • Frothing Berserker: Protection Variant – Revenge has a 20% chance to immediately refund 50% of the Rage spent.
        • Switched the positions of Frothing Berserker and Honed Reflexes positions to ensure the node that governs the left branch is more universally desired.

        • No major updates for the Arms tree. We feel good about the tree and are working on fixing various bugs and tweaking abilities where needed.
        • Deft Experience’s bonus to Rend has been integrated into Bloodborne and will have a new secondary effect in a future build.
      • Arms
        • Valor in Victory is now 1% Versatility and a 15 second reduction to the cooldown of Die by the Sword per rank.
        • Critical thinking – Now increase your Critical Strike chance by 1% and Execute refunds 10% of Rage Spent per rank.
        • Bloodborne – Now increases Deep Wounds, Rend and Thunderous Roar’s Bleed effects by 7.5% and Rend’s direct damage is increased by 50% per rank.
        • The Strength bonus from Hurricane should now be calculated correctly.

        • Cruelty has historically been a very powerful talent and its position and functionality wasn’t ideal depending on your build. So, we’ve decided to split the damage and cooldown related components. This makes pathing better for various builds and also allows us to better control the power of certain abilities.
        • Made some changes to Annihilator to bring the damage and rage generation down.
        • The rage generation of various abilities such as Annihilator do not synergize with Recklessness, we will be fixing this in a future update.
        • We’ve done some testing internally on two-handed Annihilator builds and will update more to update on here in the future.
        • No other major changes, various bug fixes and tweaks to abilities.
      • Fury
        • Dancing Blades Attack speed bonus reduced to 30% (was 50%).
        • Deft Experience – Now increases Mastery by 1% and reduces the cooldown of Bloodthirst by 0.75 seconds per rank.
        • Swift Strikes – Now increases Haste by 1% and Raging Blow and Annihilator generate and additional 1 Rage.
        • The Strength bonus from Hurricane should now be calculated correctly.
        • Removed the Rage cost from the base version of Whirlwind.

PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER

  • RATED SOLO SHUFFLE
    • In Dragonflight, we’re continuing our work on the Solo Shuffle game mode by upping the stakes and adding the ability for players to earn (or lose!) rating, similar to our Rated Battlegrounds and Arenas. In this week’s PTR and Beta build, players will be able to participate in the Rated version of Solo Shuffle. Just like in Rated Battlegrounds and Arenas, you’ll be able to earn seasonal rewards and achievements, credit towards Vicious mounts, weekly great vault progress, and Conquest. Solo Shuffle’s rules and 6-round format continue, with the addition of rating changes based off of the amount of rounds each player has won during the match. We’ll be monitoring and adjusting matchmaking throughout beta to facilitate testing.

      Unique to this Rated game mode, players will have a rating tracked for each of their character’s specializations. Players will select which of their specialization to queue with, and participate in specialization-based ladders and end of season rewards. Players will also notice that we’ve created a minimum item level feature for Rated Solo Shuffle specifically, but we do not have it currently set to our final value for Season 1 of Dragonflight.

        • Raging Blow functionality – Increases the duration of your Enrage effect by 1 second, and your Raging Blows extend the duration of your Enrage by 1.5 seconds.
        • Annihilator functionality – Increases the duration of your Enrage effect by 1 second, and your Annihilator damage extends the duration of your Enrage by 0.5 seconds.

PROFESSIONS

  • CRAFTING STATIONS
    • Professions now require Crafting Stations for the majority of all crafts, outside of the simplest and easiest recipes. The goal of these stations is to help increase the immersion and fantasy of your chosen profession and enhance the social experience. You will find many of these stations scattered throughout the regions of the Dragon Isles for your convenience during leveling, including a large profession hub in Valdrakken which includes all of the crafting stations in addition to vendors and trainers. Please let us know how this requirement feels, especially if you find the requirement too harsh in certain zones.

Today, we’re shining some light on decisions we’ve made for Priests over the past few weeks for Dragonflight. First, we want to share thoughts on how things are shaping up overall and then go into some specific spells that we’re reading feedback about.

Number of Active Spells
We agree. Priests have too many active spells. While we think there will be more to assess as the expansion plays out, the first spell that comes to mind is Shadow Mend feeling unnecessary with Flash Heal being available to all Priests. Instead of Shadow Mend as a talent that overrides Flash Heal, we are working towards removing the spell. We realize that losing a secondary healing school lockout may not sit well with Discipline Priests in PvP, but we’re happy with this direction overall. While no plans are in place right now, we’re also discussing Mindgames and Power Word: Life as contributing to the number of active spells for Priests.

Class Tree
Overall, we feel the class tree is in a good spot. As mentioned above, there are too many active spells and we’re looking to pull back on that. For Shadow, the Class tree has shaped out well. We’re less happy about how many nodes can feel mandatory for Holy and Discipline and this is something we’ll be looking to improve over time.

Discipline
We will continue to monitor feedback surrounding the changes we’ve made to Renew and Power Word: Shield for Dragonflight. Currently, we do not have plans to change this and think it is playing well.

Historically Discipline has revolved heavily around Penance. We want to allow for builds that are centered around Penance, but also open opportunities for other spells in the Discipline toolkit to shine if invested into, such as Smite and Power Word: Shield. We look forward to your feedback on if this is felt with the tree, tuning aside.

For Shadow Covenant, we’re looking to take away the downsides so that it encourages Shadow spells but doesn’t discourage Holy spells. Shadow Covenant has gone through a lot of change, but we’re hoping this is a step in the right direction.

Holy
Lightweaver is our alternative design to Flash Concentration. Weaving between Flash Heal and Heal is fun, but wound up feeling like a maintenance buff. We believe having a back-and-forth between the spells with stacks to improve situational usability is a better direction for single-target focused builds.

When it comes to X’anshi (now known as Restitution), we are excited to keep the effect around for Holy Priests. We were uncertain of where this should belong in the tree, but after more deliberation decided it was best competing with the more powerful talents, so it has been moved to row 10 of the tree. We know adding this in was not desirable for PvP players. While we have no plans to disable the effect in PvP, we are discussing ways to tone down its effect in PvP so that the Priest is in more danger after resurrecting. This node also competes with two charges of Holy Word: Serenity, so they will be giving up valuable throughput for the effect.

Shadow
Now that the tree has been in front of players for a couple weeks, we are reasonably happy with what we have, with room to grow in the future. Our initial thoughts on Voidform being optional is something we stand by. How to accomplish this while continuing to support Voidform and improve its gameplay is a challenge we want to continue to discuss and work on. Currently, we’re happy with where we’ve landed with Void Eruption competing with Dark Ascension so there’s not too many cooldown spells. With that said, Dark Ascension is visually exciting, but we feel it is currently lacking in identity. We’re discussing changes like Dark Ascension being more rotationally transformative while active or having a different cooldown than Void Eruption, so that its use cases over Void Eruption are more clear. We don’t have plans to make major changes to either spell for Dragonflight launch, but they will be on our radar for the future.

Mind Spike and Mind Flay coexisting is something we’re going to try but are wary of. Shadow has many spells to press rotationally, and this isn’t helping that. At the same time, being able to build your own Shadow Priest was a goal with this iteration and we believe the tree allows for that.

Silence
We understand that Holy and Discipline are the two specs without access to an interrupt, either baseline or in a talent tree. We also realize Shadow has Silence in their tree which adds to the number of non-throughput nodes in their tree. With that said, we are not adding Silence to the Priest class tree. Having access to an interrupt is not something we view as necessary for all specializations. In PvP, Holy and Discipline already provide valuable control to their team and additionally having Silence would provide more control than we’re comfortable with. This is especially true with how much control is becoming available across all classes in Dragonflight.

Vault of Heavens
This was discussed early on with this iteration with the intent to add it as a choice against Leap of Faith. Upon further consideration, Vault of Heavens is almost always more useful than Leap of Faith. But Leap of Faith is one of the more fun interactions in WoW. It changes your perspective on the battlefield. You’re always ready to react to save someone. And of course, it has some clever uses to get your friends killed. If we allow for the choice, the choice is clear, or we’d have to nerf Vault of Heavens down to something that won’t feel very powerful. The fantasy of the Priest leaping to their target doesn’t match our expectations for a Priest either, so we instead separated Body and Soul from Angelic Feather for a little extra movement support and kept Leap of Faith as a standalone.

Shining Force
This spell was deliberately removed in Dragonflight. Powerful spells being removed can cause frustration; however, the amount of control available across all classes in Dragonflight is causing concern. On top of this, the prevalence of knockbacks is already increasing in Dragonflight PvP and knockbacks can be the most influential control effect on arena or battleground maps with verticality.

Spectral Guise
We’ve read feedback about a desire for the return of Spectral Guise. We discussed the ability early on and decided against it, and our stance has not changed. We do not want Priests entering stealth especially in PvP, as it removes the Priest from the target and focus frame and occurs frequently. Hunters, Rogues, and Mages already do this often enough.

Mind Bomb
In its current form as a disorient we don’t think it is very compelling as a replacement to Psychic Scream besides preventing movement during the effect. What we anticipate is desired is the AoE stun version of the spell, but we are not planning to bring that forward. We pulled back on AoE stun duration and availability some time ago and decided against adding this one back so that we wouldn’t find ourselves in the same situation we were in the past. If everyone has an AoE stun, then it’s not going to feel special to have one in the first place.

Personal Defenses
For similar reasons as Silence, we will not be adding Dispersion to the Priest class tree. Healing Priests are understandably on the weaker side of the defensive spectrum, but our answer to that isn’t to bring Dispersion to the class tree. Between Desperate Prayer, Power Word: Shield, Angelic Bulwark, Translucent Image, and Spell Warding, we feel Priests are in an okay spot. We’ve also increased the damage reduction effect from Translucent Image to 10% and separated Phantasm from it.

  • Players will now get nibbles when their fishing levels are too low for the area.

        • Vivacious Vivification now grants an instant Vivify once every 10 seconds.
          • Developers’ note: We really liked the idea of pushing Vivify as a more responsive heal, but Vivacious Vivification as a 100%, always-on reduction to the cast time of Vivify was reducing the decision space for the class as a whole and completely obsoleting Soothing Mist in particular. With this change, we hope to strike a balance of allowing players a skill-testing emergency heal they’re excited to invest into, while still making more sustained with multiple Vivifies a more significant investment that will encourage using the full breadth of the toolkit.
        • Expel Harm moved back to baseline for all Monks.
          • Developers’ note: The prior positioning of Expel Harm was too restrictive and forced the selection of other abilities.
        • Heavy Air replaced with Vigorous Expulsion.
          • Developers’ note: While we were excited about offering additional range and control of the battlefield, player feedback was clear that this talent didn’t feel valuable enough to invest in.
        • Vigorous Expulsion increases the healing of Expel Harm by 5% and the critical strike chance of Expel Harm by 15%.
        • Strength of Spirit increases the healing of Expel Harm by up to 200% based on current maximum health. Moved to the Class Tree from Brewmaster.

        • Holy Shield now requires having a shield equipped to use.
        • Holy Shield will no longer allow you to block periodic spell damage.
        • Holy Shield will now allow you to block creatures that deal non-physical auto attack damage, such as if a Fire Elemental melee attacks you as Fire damage.
        • Holy Shield will work against attacks that deal combinations of physical and elemental damage, such as a Fire and Physical spell or attack.
        • The combat log will properly report Spell Blocks from Holy Shield as blocked damage, rather than absorbed damage.
    • PRIEST
      • Class Tree
        • Throes of Pain – Now a 2-point talent further down in the tree. Increases Shadow Word: Pain damage by 3%/5% and returns 3/5 Insanity or 0.5%/1.0% mana.
        • Tithe Evasion – Now in the Class tree (was Shadow tree).
        • Improved Mind Blast has been removed.
        • Translucent Image – Fade reduces damage you take by 10% (was 5%).
        • Dominant Mind renamed to Dominate Mind – Now an active spell as a choice against Mind Control. Mana cost changed to match Mind Control’s mana cost.

        • Holy Fire – Holy Fire now replaces Mind Blast for Holy Priest.
        • Burning Vehemence has been redesigned – Increases the damage of Holy Fire by 25%.
        • Searing Light – Increases the damage of Smite and Holy Nova by 25%/50% against targets affected by your Holy Fire (was 15%/30%).
        • Resonant Words – Casting a Holy Word spell increases the healing of your next Heal or Flash Heal by 25%/50% (was 15%/30%).
        • New Talent: Divine Image – When you use a Holy Word spell, you have a chance to summon an image of a Naaru at your side. For 15 seconds, whenever you cast a spell, the Naaru will cast a similar spell.
        • Miracle Worker – Holy Word: Serenity and Holy Word: Sanctify gain an additional charge.
        • Spirited Litany renamed to Answered Prayers – After your Prayer of Mending heals 100 / 50 times, gain Apotheosis for 8 seconds. Does not reset the cooldown of Holy Words when triggered.
        • Guardians of the Light – Tooltip updated. Guardian Spirit also grants you 100% of its effects when used on an ally.
        • Desperate Times – Increases healing by 10%/20% on friendly targets below 50% (was 6%/12%).
      • Shadow
        • The Shadow tree has been reorganized.
        • Dark Evangelism – Fixed a bug causing Mind Sear damage to not be increased by Dark Evangelism.
        • Hallucinations – Now Baseline as Shadow.
        • Dark Ascension – Now a choice node against Void Eruption. Duration increased to 20 seconds (was 18 seconds). Damage per stack increased to 5% (was 4%). No longer requires or consumes Dark Evangelism.
        • Mind Spike – No longer removes damage over time effects. Critical Strike chance bonus to Mind Blast moved to Mind Melt.
        • Mind Melt – The tooltip has been updated. Mind Spike reduces the cast time of your next Mind Blast by 50%, and increases its critical strike chance by 50%, stacking up to 2 times. Lasts 10 seconds.
        • Derangement – Increases Mind Sear damage by 20% instead of increasing its cast speed.
        • Mind Sear – Updated Mind Sear behavior for a better experience. Added extra initial tick. Now costs Insanity immediately and cancels as soon as the Priest doesn’t have enough Insanity.
        • Mind Devourer – Now a 1-point node with a 15% trigger chance. The trigger effect now affects Devouring Plague or Mind Sear.
        • Shadowy Apparitions – Fixed a bug that caused periodic Devouring Plague to spawn Shadowy Apparitions.
        • Silence – Range changed to 40 yards to offset the loss of Silence (Rank 2).
        • Damnation – Cooldown increased to 1 minute (was 45 seconds).
        • Void Torrent – Cooldown increased to 1 minute (was 30 seconds). Damage increased by 25%.
        • Malediction – Now a 2-point talent. Reduces the cooldown of Damnation and Void Torrent by 15 seconds/30 seconds.

        • Stormkeeper, Healing Stream Totem, and Cloudburst Totem should now properly grant 2 charges of the ability when talenting into both nodes on the talent tree.

        • Swirling Maelstrom reduced to 1 stack of Maelstrom Weapon (was 2). Fire Nova interaction clarified that it is 1 stack per Fire Nova caused rather than per Fire Nova ability cast.
        • Feral Lunge is now below Windfury Weapon rather than below Stormflurry.
        • Windfury Totem trigger chance is now back up to 20%. This is also a rank 2 that got lost.
        • Crash Lightning has had the following adjustments:
          • Cooldown increased to 12 seconds (was 9 seconds).
          • Crash Lightning’s buff from hitting 2 or more targets is now 12 seconds (was 10 seconds).
          • Ice Strike can now also cause the bonus damage from Crash Lightning.

        • We’ve decided to remove Skull Banner, the general consensus across sources of feedback has not been particularly positive and we’ve struggled to find the right home for Skull Banner in each of the talent trees. Therefore, we’ve decided to remove it.

        • Frothing Berserker: Arms Variant – Mortal Strike and Cleave have a 20% chance to immediately refund 20% of the Rage spent.

        • Valor in Victory is now 1% Versatility and a 15 second reduction to the cooldown of Die by the Sword per rank.

        • Cruelty has historically been a very powerful talent and its position and functionality wasn’t ideal depending on your build. So, we’ve decided to split the damage and cooldown related components. This makes pathing better for various builds and also allows us to better control the power of certain abilities.
        • Made some changes to Annihilator to bring the damage and rage generation down.
        • The rage generation of various abilities such as Annihilator do not synergize with Recklessness, we will be fixing this in a future update.
        • We’ve done some testing internally on two-handed Annihilator builds and will update more to update on here in the future.
        • No other major changes, various bug fixes and tweaks to abilities.
      • Fury
        • Dancing Blades Attack speed bonus reduced to 30% (was 50%).
        • Deft Experience – Now increases Mastery by 1% and reduces the cooldown of Bloodthirst by 0.75 seconds per rank.

PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER

  • RATED SOLO SHUFFLE
    • In Dragonflight, we’re continuing our work on the Solo Shuffle game mode by upping the stakes and adding the ability for players to earn (or lose!) rating, similar to our Rated Battlegrounds and Arenas. In this week’s PTR and Beta build, players will be able to participate in the Rated version of Solo Shuffle. Just like in Rated Battlegrounds and Arenas, you’ll be able to earn seasonal rewards and achievements, credit towards Vicious mounts, weekly great vault progress, and Conquest. Solo Shuffle’s rules and 6-round format continue, with the addition of rating changes based off of the amount of rounds each player has won during the match. We’ll be monitoring and adjusting matchmaking throughout beta to facilitate testing.

      Unique to this Rated game mode, players will have a rating tracked for each of their character’s specializations. Players will select which of their specialization to queue with, and participate in specialization-based ladders and end of season rewards. Players will also notice that we’ve created a minimum item level feature for Rated Solo Shuffle specifically, but we do not have it currently set to our final value for Season 1 of Dragonflight.

      • Dagger in the Dark increases Shadowstrike damage for Subtlety, and Ambush damage for Assassination and Outlaw.
    • WARLOCK
      • Call Observer – Now available for all Warlock specializations (was Demonology only).
      • Bonds of Fel – Now available for all Warlock specializations (was Destruction only).
    • WARRIOR
      • Rebound – Reflected spells now cause 50% extra damage back to the attacker (was 33%). Now available for all Warrior specializations (was Protection only).
      • Battle Trance has been redesigned – You go into a trance causing you to regenerate 3% of your health and generate 3 Rage every 3 seconds for 18 seconds after using Raging Blow twice in a row on a target or striking a target with Annihilator 8 times. Striking a new target with Raging Blow or Annihilator will cancel this effect.
      • Enduring Rage redesigned to also work with Annihilator:
        • Raging Blow functionality – Increases the duration of your Enrage effect by 1 second, and your Raging Blows extend the duration of your Enrage by 1.5 seconds.
        • Annihilator functionality – Increases the duration of your Enrage effect by 1 second, and your Annihilator damage extends the duration of your Enrage by 0.5 seconds.

Additional Fated Power in Season 4 Fated Raids, Dragonflight Beta: Chromie Time ilvl Rescaling

Blizzard has announced that starting with this week’s weekly reset raiders will be able to choose to have a second fated affix active in fated raids.

On the Dragonflight beta side of things people noticed changes to item levels in leveling content. Blizzard has responded explaining that they are not squishing any stats but are changing the scaling around leveling with Chromie Time going up to level 60 in Dragonflight.

This past weekend’s esports charity event, Xy’mox’s Charity Cache, provided the players with additional Fated Powers in Fated Raids. Though this might have looked like a detriment at first glance, capitalizing on double the Fated Infusions turns out to be a boon!

We believe that this feature should be available to all organized players, and so starting with the next weekly reset, players in Normal, Heroic, or Mythic Fated Raids will be able to opt-in to one additional Fated Power at the Fated Console, located near the entrance of each of the Fated Raids. These additional powers may be disabled at any time, but that won’t affect any in-combat encounters, and will not change how loot is awarded.

We know that many players have enjoyed the twists and fun of Fated Powers, and we hope that access to more will increase the fun.

Chromie Time ilvl Rescaling

We are not doing a squish. The overall goal is for player-characters who are at level 60 today to log in at level 60 in Dragonflight with the same item level and approximately the same stats as they had before.

What we are doing: rescaling Chromie Time. In Dragonflight, Chromie Time now stretches from 10-60, so that players can choose which expansion they’d like to level in, and they can stick with that all the way to Dragonflight if they choose to.

So that’s going to require that we change some iLvls within that range to make it a smooth experience, but the endpoint isn’t changing.

There are definitely some bugs with this on the Dragonflight Beta and the PTR, such as your heirlooms, and we’re going to fix them up.
