Explanation On Website Issues

Hi there everyone! As you’ll probably have noticed the website has had a lot of troubles for the past 5 days. We put out an explanation a few days ago but during site maintenance with backing up and restoring the website it got lost. So here’s what’s been going on.. Since the start of the launch of Warlords we’ve gotten a lot more (awesome!) traffic. This huge influx exposed a memory issue within our hardware and software, around Monday the website would barely get back up from crashing. The first thing we did was upgrade our hardware to see if that was the issue. Which worked for about half a day and then the memory filled up again too. Since then we’ve been working nonstop to find the actual cause.

This morning around 4am we believed to have found, not one but two software side issues that were causing the problems. It’s been roughly 8 hours since the fixes were implemented and everything is looking quite stable. So we feel relatively safe to say that the website is now fully back up and running. We’d like to give a special thanks to the server specialist who has helped us out to find and fix the problems. Of course we’d also like to thank you, the reader, for being patient with us. We certainly hope you’ll keep coming back and enjoy the content we put out!

WoW 10 Year Anniversary Events

Tommorow there will be 3 10 year anniversary events across Europe!

Quote from: Blizzard
Blizzard is marking the 10-year anniversary of World of Warcraft’s launch with awesome events in three major cities across Europe. If you can make it to central Paris, London, or Berlin on November 22 you’ll have the chance to attend and be part of the celebration. You’ll be able to mix with fellow players, well-known fan sites, and Blizzard staff, take part in fun activities including WoW dance and costume contests, win cool prizes, have unique photo opportunities to show your WoW pride, and much more… Of course, there will also be drinks and birthday cake! Each venue has strict capacity limits so it’ll be first-come, first-served. If we don’t have enough room for everyone who wants to enter, we’ll do our best to reward your WoW passion even if you can’t get in.

We’ll update this blog post in the coming days with final details of event timing and locations, and there’ll be dedicated forum threads to answer your questions. For now, gather your guild-mates, get your WoW costume ready, practice your dance moves, polish your party axe, and mark November 22 on your calendar!

Update: We’re ready to share more information on the World of Warcraft 10th anniversary community gatherings in London, Berlin, and Paris on Saturday November 22!

You’ll find a complete FAQ in this forum thread. The most important thing you need to know is that in order to attend, you will need to register for a free ticket. These tickets are limited in number and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The priority tickets will be available from 14:00 CET (13:00 GMT) on Monday November 17. We’ll tell you the URL of the ticket page via the World of Warcraft Facebook page and Twitter at this time.
We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Quote from: Blizzard
Here’s an FAQ for the 10th Anniversary Event in London on 22 November.

Is the event free to attend?
Yes! However, to attend you’ll need to have successfully registered for a ticket – see below.

What is the location?
London:
The Banking Hall
14 Cornhill
EC3V 3ND

What time does the event start and finish?
Here’s a simplified timeline for the London event. All times are local.

18:00 – you can start queuing
20:00 – doors open for priority ticket holders
21:00 – event starts
00:30 – event ends

Are there any age limits for attendees?
If you’re under 16 you will need to be accompanied by a legal guardian who will also need a ticket. People under 12 years old are not permitted to attend. Whatever age you are, please remember to bring photo ID so we can double-check that you registered for the event.

Why is a registration system being used?
Our venues have limited capacity and we’re using a ticket registration system so that you have a better idea of whether you’ll be able to get in. All tickets to the anniversary events are free. If you’re sure you want to attend, keep reading.

How does registration work?
When registration opens at 13:00 UK time on Monday November 17, go to the website (link will be provided through the WoW social media channels and the dedicated forum thread in General) and enter your name and email address. Make sure you are on the correct page for the event (London, Paris, Berlin) you want to attend. You can choose one or two tickets (if available).

      1. Getting a “priority registration” ticket ensures you will be able enter the venue, provided you arrive in time (see below) and bring your ticket (printed or on your phone).* If you get one of these tickets you can begin queuing in the priority queue from 18:00.
    2. If all the priority registration tickets are taken, we will open “stand-by registration” at a later date. We’ll tell you when this second round of tickets will go live via the World of Warcraft social media channels. People with a stand-by ticket will be able to enter the venue if those with priority registration don’t show up by 20:30. For every priority registration guest who doesn’t show up, we’ll let in one stand-by guest. If you get a stand-by ticket, there is a chance you will be able to get in, and a chance to win prizes even if you don’t. There will be a dedicated queue for the stand-by list and it will be first-come-first-served. You can start queuing in the stand-by queue if you are on the stand-by list from 18:00.

If you have either ticket type and you come to the venue in a World of Warcraft themed costume, you may be invited to come to the front of the queue corresponding to your ticket type. This will be decided by a member of the World of Warcraft Europe Community team, and they’ll be judging your costume on the effort you’ve put in and how much passion you’re showing for World of Warcraft (also, see notes on costumes below). Please note that we’ll be picking out individuals, or groups who are all in costume. If you are in a cool costume and your friend is not, we may not be able to bring your friend to the front of the queue as well, to be fair to other attendees.

When you arrive at the venue, please be sure to join the correct queue. If you have stand-by registration and you join the priority queue by mistake, you will have to join the back of the stand-by queue when you get to the door.

Why is there stand-by ticket registration?
In case someone with a priority ticket holder does not show up to the venue, we want to make sure that as many players as possible get the chance to share the celebration.

The page shows no tickets available now. Can I still attend?
If there are no priority or stand-by tickets left, that means our event is ‘sold out’ and there’s very little chance that you will be able to join the event if you show up at the venue.

Can I give my ticket to someone else?
No, every ticket is linked to a name, so it cannot be transferred.

How does it work if I buy two tickets?
Make sure you arrive at the venue together and queue with the other person! Your friend will only be able to enter the venue at the same time as you.

I got a ticket but now I can’t attend. Can I cancel my ticket?
Yes, you can cancel your ticket through the event page where you got it. We’ll make another ticket available for someone else.

When will priority registration open?
13:00 UK time on Monday November 17.

What should I bring with me?
There are two things you really need to bring. Firstly, photo ID, so you can prove you’re the valid ticket holder. Secondly, you must also bring your ticket – either printed or a digital version on your phone.

What kind of photo ID is acceptable for proof of identity and age?
Government-issued ID with a photo: such as passport, driving license with photo, student card, etc.

When can I start queuing?
If you have a priority ticket, be sure to arrive at the venue between 18:00 and 20:00. If you arrive after 20:30, your spot at the event will be allocated to someone on the stand-by list. These spots will go to people in the stand-by queue in the order which they arrived and started queuing (see the exception relating to costumes above). If you have a stand-by ticket, you can also start queuing at the venue from 18:00. As the venues have neighbouring businesses, queuing before 18:00 is not permitted.

What happens if the event is full by the time I get to the front of the stand-by queue?
Unfortunately, we can’t be sure that we’ll have room for everyone who wants to get in. We’ll do our very best to keep everyone updated whether you’re close enough to the front to get in.

Are there any restrictions on costumes?
Yes. The venues for our events can’t accommodate very large or elaborate costumes. No sharp edges, enormous wings, wheels, pets, mounts, etc.
– Your safety is a priority, so we want to make sure that people in costumes can safely navigate the venue. That means costumes can be no wider than 90cm across and no taller than 200cm. You’ll also need to be able to easily manoeuvre your costume over stairs or ramps unassisted.
– No weapons – or articles that could be construed as real weapons – are allowed. As usual, costume “weapon props” are acceptable, and construction will be limited to costuming materials such as foam or soft plastic. Wooden staves that are not shod with metal are OK.
– No liquids, gels, or other substances which could cause a mess or a safety hazard are allowed.

Are there dressing rooms for cosplayers?
Sorry, the venue does not have dedicated facilities for cosplayers.

Are there cloakroom facilities?
Yes, the venue has cloakroom facilities, but this is limited to coats and small bags.

Is the venue wheelchair-friendly?
Yes. If you need assistance please contact the security staff.

Who will be there from Blizzard?
We’ll have several members of the Blizzard Europe Community team at each event. We’re looking forward to meeting you and talking about WoW!

Can I bring my own food and/or drinks to the party?
You won’t be permitted to bring food, drinks, potions etc. with you into the venue. There will be free soft drinks.

Can I take photos and video?
Absolutely! We want to show the world how much Blizzard and the World of Warcraft community loves the game, so take photos and videos and share them as much as you like. We’ll have cool ways for you to get unique photos at the event too. If you use the hashtag #10yearsofWoW then we’ll be able to gather all the excitement together in the days afterwards. Please note that we will also be taking photos/video to promote the event.

Will there be sweet, sweet loot?
Oh yes indeed. There’ll be prizes to win during quizzes and other competitions. If you’re in the stand-by queue and don’t get the chance to come in, we also plan to hold quizzes outside in the build-up, so everyone will have a chance to win something.

Will I be able to buy goodies, games, or other Blizzard loot?
Sorry, we won’t have the facilities to sell any Blizzard gear at these events.

How can I enter the dance/costume contest?
You don’t need to sign up before the event for either contest. If you’re wearing a cool costume and want to take part in the contest, just make sure you’re paying attention to the host and be ready to show off your creation! We’re aiming to hold the costume contest around 22:00, so make sure you’re ready and near the stage before then. We plan to hold the dance contest at 23:00. Just be ready and near the stage, and make sure you’ve practiced! Of course, there will be cool prizes for winners and all participants. If you have a ticket and you know that you’re going attend in a costume, we would love to hear from you! Please contact us on [email protected]

What are the rules/criteria for the costume contest?
Your creation will be judged on various criteria, including:
– Faithfulness to the corresponding character, creature etc. in World of Warcraft;
– Effort put into its creation and passion shown for World of Warcraft;
– Overall quality and impression of the finished costume.

The judges’ decision will be final.

What are the rules/criteria for the dance contest?
See “How can I enter…” above. You will have 30 seconds to demonstrate your World of Warcraft dance; we’ll play the appropriate music but can’t guarantee you’ll be able to see video of the WoW character dancing to remind you of the moves, so be sure you get lots of practice before the event. The judges’ decision will be final.

* Blizzard reserves the right to refuse entry to its events for safety reasons.

With the initial leveling experience in Warlords done, today we’ll take a look at the heroic Skyreach dungeon. This is the first dungeon you will have to do for the legendary quest. Check below the break for the guide in text.

Warlords of Draenor Garrison Guide

Over the lifespan of the WoD Beta we’ve covered a lot of what you can expect from the Garrisons. however because there’s so much information to cover here’s a complete guide with just about everything you need to know as well as links to our various videos/guides.

The basics

You get your garrison almost right after you finish the Tenaan Jungle intro event. You get a set of quests that take you through all the waves and motions of the Garrison mechanics. Let’s go over each of those mechanics.

Resources

When going about the daily goings of your garrison you’ll need resources. You can earn these from multiple sources: The garrison resource chest, quests, garrison missions, rare mobs and garrison buildings such as the lumber mill and the trading post. Once you reach maximum level you’ll mainly earn the resources from the garrison chest, garrison missions and garrison buildings.

You’ll use resources for things like building buildings, upgrading them and sending followers on missions.

Plots/Garrison Leveling

garrisons picWhen you build up your garrison you can build the garrison buildings in plots. The type of plot determines which buildings you can put on them. There are more buildings per type of plot than there are plots, which means you will have to make a choice as to which buildings you want. This matters because you get perks depending on the buildings you choose (more on that in the buildings section).

You will need to level your garrison up to get more plots. Your garrison starts at tier 1 and you can level it up to a maximum of tier 3. See the below table for the amount of plots per tier.

Tier Amount of Plots
1 1 small, 1 large
2 2 small, 1 medium, 1 large
3 3 small, 3 medium, 2 large

Tier 2

To level your garrison up to tier 2 you will simply need to have completed both buildings in the plots. You will then get the quest to upgrade your town hall. To do so you have to click on the town hall in the architect interface and click upgrade.

At tier 2 you will also get quests depending on your level to unlock new buildings, these don’t cost extra plots.

Level Required Building
92 The Mines
94 The Fishing Shack
96 The Herb Garden
98 Pet Menagerie

Tier 3

To level your garrison up to tier 3 you simply need to be level 100. The upgrade itself will require 5000 gold and 2000 resources.

Buildings

As mentioned before the plots determine which buildings you can build. At garrison tier 3 you can build 3 small, 3 medium and 2 large buildings. Each building has 3 levels and depending on the level you’ll get perks from having those buildings. Check below for all the different buildings and their perks so you can start thinking about which buildings you will want to build first when you get your own garrison. To build and level up your garrison you will need to get blueprints.

Type Blueprint How to Obtain
Level 1 blueprints Become available to you when your Garrison reaches Tier 2.
Level 2 Small building blueprints Reach level 96 or complete the Talador zone
Level 2 Medium building blueprints Reach level 98 or complete the Spires of Arak zone
Level 2 Large building blueprints Reach level 100 or complete the Nagrand zone
Level 3 blueprints Become available as you complete certain achievements across Draenor

Level 3 blueprints are account-wide. Once you unlock one on a character, it’s available to all characters on your account.

The Salvage Yard

You will need to finish the goblin chain quests to the east/southeast in Spires of Arak at lvl 98. Together with the work orders from the Dwarven Bunker, the salvage yard is your main source of follower gear upgrades. But not only that, you can get legitimate item upgrades as well as character creation screen transmogrification sets. Check out some of the possible items below (note the dkp values are from a custom addon)!

The non full set upgrades are now either +3, +6 or +9 item levels.

Followers

As you adventure through Draenor you’ll get the chance to build up your own private army. You can earn these followers through exploring, questing, achievements and dungeons. You can send these followers on missions to earn follower experience, gold and other tidbits. There’s a few things you need to know about these followers.

  • You can have up to a maximum of 20 active followers (25 with lvl 3 barracks)
  • Once you have more than the maximum amount active you cannot send followers on missions until you put followers on inactive (right click follower to do so) until you have the maximum amount of active followers again.
  • Followers can be leveled up to lvl 100
  • Followers have uncommon (green), rare (blue) or epic (purple) quality. These determine the amount of abilities and traits the follower has.
  • Abilities and traits counter mission dangers or give your followers buffs during missions to increase the chance of succesful missions. They can also have profession traits, in which case you can assign them to the appropriate profession building via the architect interface.
  • Once a follower is level 100 they can continue to gain experience until they are of epic quality.
  • Once a follower is level 100 they will have an item level, starting at 600. You can upgrade their gear, which will be needed for harder missions.

For an overview of all the followers we’ve found check out these guides.

Missions

Missions are your way to keep your followers busy. Once you have your very first follower you will be sending them on a mission right away. Missions have many rewards, from gold to experience to follwer item upgrades there’s plenty of reasons to keep sending your followers on new missions. You can choose which follower you send on which mission in the mission interface by dragging them to the open follower slots.

The list of missions you get can grow for a bit, so if you can’t log on for a day there’s no harm done, you’ll still be able to send your followers on plenty of missions without falling behind in leveling them up! Missions at maximum level have 4 tiers, corresponding with follower item level. There are even raid missions, Kalgan explained them a while back:

Once you have followers at ilvl 615, the second tier of level 100 missions unlocks, at 630 the third tier unlocks (includes missions with ilvl 645 gear for your character), and when you have followers at ilvl 645 the fourth tier unlocks.

The fourth tier is special in that they show up rarely, but they’re raid missions for your followers that reward your character with raid quality loot of a tier higher than you’re currently running. If you’re doing LFR, you’ll get normal quality raid loot, if you’re running normal raids you’ll get heroic quality loot, and heroic raiders will get mythic quality loot. Mythic raiders will get mythic loot and 1k gold.

These missions show up rarely enough that you won’t be able to deck out your character in these items before the next raid zone shows up, but having a handful of them will give you a nice edge.

(Note: DKP Value in item is from a custom addon)

Monuments

In your garrison you will be able to put up monuments that commemorate the feats you’ve achieved in draenor. There are currently 6 monuments to earn and 3 slots in a tier 3 garrison to place them in. You can earn them in the following ways:

  • Get 5000 honorable kills in Draenor
  • Craft 50 epic items with an item level of at least 600
  • Complete mythic raiding achievements
  • Win 2000 pet battles in Draenor
  • Collect 100000 Apexis Crystals
  • Complete a likely legendary ring achievement

The monuments are purely cosmetic and allow you to customize your garrison a bit.

Invasions

You will be able to take part in invasion events. In these your garrison is under attack and you’ll need to defend it from various invaders. The fun part of these is that your followers will fight alongside you and that you’ll be able to earn points and try and earn rewards with these!

Outposts

In each zone other than your garrison zone you’ll get to build a garrison outpost. At each outpost you’ll have be able to build 1 building, with the choice from 2. Once you’ve built it you will have access to a garrison ability in that zone. Check out the table below for the overview.

Zone Building 1 Building 2
Gorgrond Lumber Mill Sparring Arena
Talador Mage Tower Artillery/Armory
Spires of Arak Inn Trading Post
Nagrand StablesPerk: Special Mount For Combat, allowing casting while moving Siege Works

Concluding Remarks

Garrisons are a big part of WoD (but optional for the most part), and this guide certainly shows it. There are many aspects to it and it might seem like much, but once you play with it yourself and start building your garrison it is actually quite easy to deal with. If you’re a collector you’ll enjoy going around Draenor to collect the followers and build up your own private army!

Getting Through All The Changes In The New Patch 6.0.2

Welcome to A Look At, an editorial series where we try to keep things lighter than your average guide.

Patch 6.0.2 is live on both the US and EU servers now and it possibly has the biggest amount of changes to the game we’ve seen in any pre-expansion patch. Because of this you’ll undoubtedly run into some things that could be confusing or just broken. Let’s take a look at what you could run into and how to go about dealing with it. (You can always check out the patch notes here)

Class Changes

Let’s face it, one of the biggest things you’ll encounter is the amount of changes you might have gotten to your class. The ability pruning and stat/healer/tank changes were all needed for the longevity of the game but no doubt some things might frustrate you at first. You’ll have to get used to playing your class or spec again in a different way compared to what you were used to. You might even have to switch specs if it turns out due to the changes another spec has more damage/healing output. Icy veins has guides to help you along in getting used to the changes for your class.

Along with those guides what can you do to get up to speed? Practice. Use the training dummies in the city to get used to your new rotation (Raid dummies have been updated to level 100 raid bosses, so use the level 90 dummies in your faction’s shrine in pandaria). It’s ok that it can cost a bit of time, just be patient. There’s a reason these pre-expansion patches are released ahead of an expansion. By getting used to everything now you’ll be able to rock the socks of the Iron Horde when Warlords is actually released.

WoD Logo

System Changes And Bugs

There’s no doubt that a lot of the changes are straight forward, especially taking into consideration all of the bagspace changes. However because of all these changes it’s quite possible that there are still bugs lurking beneath the surface because of the complexity of each system. If you come across such a bug, don’t get too frustrated. Again this is why we get the changes now and not when the actual expansion is launched. Report the bugs with as much detail as you can through the appropriate bug reporting channels. You can also check to see if the bug or issue is already known.

  • For the EU, use the ingame bug reporting tool. In WoW go to the menu (escape), help,  click Submit Bug. Then Enter the details of the bug, making sure to follow the guidelines outlined on the submission form. Afterwards click Submit.
  • For the US, other than the ingame way of reporting you also have the bug report forums.

Community Manager Zarhym had this to say about any stat squish issues:

Quote from: Blizzard

If any particular creatures aren’t properly squished, be sure to report them by name in the Bug Report forum so we can hotfix these as quickly as possible. As an aside, Patch 6.0.2 is the biggest change World of Warcraft has ever seen, particularly on the technical side with file structure and coding, as well as on the mechanical side with things like the stat squish, ability pruning, etc. There are bound to be some unforeseen bugs or other issues, which is why we have all hands on deck ready to pounce on these as we find them. With your help and patience we’ll get things sorted even faster.

Addons

As a last mention, due to all the system changes it’s quite possible some or many of your addons might be broken. The process of fixing an addon, let alone writing one, can be quite long. So if your favorite addon hasn’t been updated yet and is completely broken just turn it off for now and wait until it has been fixed by the author. (And you can always choose to find another addon that does the same and has been fixed for 6.0)

Conclusion

Pre-expansion patches are always exciting times, but they can be frustrated too. Just remember a game can be a complicated thing beneath the surface. So just take your time to get used to the new things and report any bugs you might come across. That way you’ll help the developers and be completely ready when the real goal comes around: Warlords of Draenor.
