Upcoming Class Tuning Changes – 6 April

A new set of class tuning changes will be coming this week with the weekly reset!

Quote from: Blizzard

Classes

Druid

  • Guardian
    • (4) Set Bonus: Architect’s Aligner damage and healing reduced by 35%.
    • Developer note: The performance of Architect’s Aligner has become an outlier amongst other tank tier set bonuses in both single- and multi-target situations. Due to this, with weekly maintenance we will be adjusting Architect’s Aligner to bring its performance closer to other bonuses. Thank you for the feedback and we will continue to watch the ongoing discussions across the community.

Mage

  • Fire
    • (2) Set Bonus: Increases the duration of Combustion by 4 sec, up from 2 sec.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.
    • Fireball damage increased by 20%.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.
    • Fire Blast damage increased by 10%.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.
    • Pyroblast damage increased by 6%.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.

Monk

  • Windwalker
    • Rising Sun Kick damage increased by 10%.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.
    • Blackout Kick damage increased by 10%.
    • Tiger Palm damage increased by 10%.
    • Fist of the White Tiger damage increased by 10%.
    • Developer note: While Windwalker Monks shine in multitarget situations, we’re seeing their performance fall behind in single target scenarios, even after acquiring endgame gear. As a result, we’re targeting specific abilities with the goal of improving their single target output.

Paladin

  • Retribution
    • (2) Set Bonus: When you benefit from Art of War, you gain Seraphim for 4 sec, up from 3 sec
    • Divine Storm damage increased by 10%.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.
    • Wake of Ashes damage increased by 10%.
      • This change does not apply to PvP combat.

Rogue

  • Assassination
    • Fan of Knives damage increased by 30%.

Warlock

  • Demonology
    • Demonic Consumption’s now causes your Demon Commander to drain 12% of the life from your other demons (was 15%).

PvP

  • Items
    • Cosmic Gladiator’s Eternal Aegis
      • The value of the Magic shield provided by Cosmic Gladiator’s Eternal Aegis has been reduced by 33%.
      • Developer note: We’ve been monitoring the performance of our newly introduced PvP trinkets during Season 3 and their effect on the length of matches, and have decided to adjust the effectiveness of the Cosmic Gladiator’s Eternal Aegis to bring it in line with other defensive trinket options. With weekly maintenance we’ll be reducing the Magic absorption provided by the trinket by 33%.

Druid

  • Guardian
    • (4) Set Bonus: Architect’s Aligner damage and healing reduced by 25% in PvP combat (was 50%).

Priest

  • Holy
    • Holy Ward’s (PvP Talent) cooldown increased to 45 seconds (was 30 seconds) and duration decreased to 15 seconds (was 30 seconds).
    • (4) Set Bonus: Divine Conversation’s effectiveness reduced by 40% in PvP combat.
    • Developer note: We have been monitoring Holy Priest performance in rated PvP and will be adjusting the cooldown and duration of Holy Ward to increase interactivity with the talent while providing more counterplay opportunity for opponents. We will also be reducing the effectiveness of Divine Conversation while in PvP combat, as the throughput increase provided by the set bonus is more substantial than we would like. With weekly maintenance, we will be increasing Holy Ward’s cooldown to 45 seconds and decreasing its duration to 15 seconds and we will also be reducing the effectiveness of Divine Conversation by 40% in PvP Combat.

Grimrail Depot and Motion Sickness, Hotfixes: March 28-30, 2022

With Grimrail Depot looking to be one of the likely WoD dungeons for Shadowlands Season 4, the issue of motion sickness has reemerged as a concern for some players. Blizzard has responded to this with a developer video showing a new solution they are adding to solve the problem in patch 9.2.5!

Furthermore we’ve gotten the usual batches of hotfixes in the last couple days with more tuning, bugfixes and the mage tower now being permanently active. Check it all out below:

Grimrail Depot and Motion Sickness

Quote from: Blizzard

Greetings!

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. Motion sickness was a concern when we first talked about the possibility of Grimrail becoming a Mythic+ dungeon. Fortunately, one of our designers came up with a clever solution which he was happy to share in the video below:

As mentioned in the video this is currently a one-off solution for places we’ve identified motion sickness as a concern due to background motion, but we hope it’s helpful for those affected and we’ll keep an eye out for any other places where it might be applicable.

March 28, 2022

Classes

  • Death Knight
    • Unholy
      • [With realm restarts] All damage increased by 5%.
  • Druid
    • Guardian
      • [With realm restarts] (4) Set Bonus: Architect’s Aligner now deals reduced damage beyond 5 targets.
Developer note: Architect’s Aligner dealing damage to an uncapped amount of targets is inconsistent with the philosophy we applied earlier in Shadowlands to other similar abilities. As such, we are implementing a fix to this bonus that reduces the amount of damage done beyond 5 targets. Additionally, we will be watching the performance of this bonus and will make additional adjustments if the need arises. Thank you for the feedback regarding this bonus!
  • Feral
    • [With realm restarts] All damage increased by 3%.

    • Lords of Dread
      • [With realm restarts] Swarm of Darkness and Swarm of Decay caused by Mal’Ganis’ Unto Darkness will now increase all damage taken by 100% rather than only area-of-effect abilities.
Developer note: When originally creating the Unto Darkness and Swarm abilities for the Lords of Dread, the idea was intended to be in the flavor of the dreadlords turning into an actual swarm and being adversely affected by area-of-effect abilities such as Flamestrike. However, the way it played out was that this proved to be very limiting in which classes could perform at a required level for harder difficulties. We’re making a change to update the vulnerability from area-of-effect damage to all damage taken so that every damage class can enjoy the phase equally.
  • Rygelon
    • [With realm restarts] Reduced boss health by 5% on Heroic difficulty.
    • [With realm restarts] Reduced the damage of Stellar Decay by 20% on Heroic difficulty.

Achievements

  • Characters who experienced a bug which prevented the achievement “Renowned” from being earned should now properly earn their achievement upon login if they have 80 Renown.

Pet Battles

  • You can now properly queue for a pet battle with the “Find Battle” button while in Zereth Mortis.

Player versus Player

  • War Mode
    • In War Mode, Kbato’s damage versus other player’s Kbatos in the “Knocking On Death’s Door” quest has been reduced.
  • Shaman
    • Fixed an issue that allowed Chain Heal to heal vehicles in battlegrounds.

Coming Later This Year: Shadowlands Season 4

It looks like we might have gotten confirmation it taking a long time before we’ll see a next expansion launch! Blizzard has just announced that a season 4 will come after season 3. It will consist of a mix of dungeons from the previous expansions for M+ (and you can vote on 2 of them!), all Shadowlands raids being made relevant with a first time affix system for raiding and a 4th season of rated PvP. Check out all the details below:

Quote from: Blizzard

Now that Season 3 is well underway and players are pursuing all of the seasonal aspects of Mythic+ and competitive PvP, we’d like you to join us in considering what might come afterward. Later this year, after the current season has run for a typical duration, we’re planning to conclude Season 3 and begin Shadowlands Season 4, a fresh take on what a season of WoW might include.

In Shadowlands Season 4, your PvP efforts will reward you with a new higher tier of PvP gear along with other Season rewards, such as mounts and titles. We’re planning for the highest ranking title to be Eternal Gladiator, a fitting capstone for your Shadowlands PvP accomplishments.

We’re excited to announce that we’re going to shake things up in Mythic+ and raiding in Season 4. We’d like to change up the Mythic+ dungeon pool so that it would include 8 dungeons that span the last four expansions of WoW:

  • Tazavesh: Streets of Wonder
  • Tazavesh: So’leah’s Gambit
  • Operation Mechagon: Junkyard
  • Operation Mechagon: Workshop
  • Return to Karazhan: Lower
  • Return to Karazhan: Upper
  • And two dungeons from Warlords of Draenor

To that end, we’ve started a community poll where you’ll help us decide which two Draenor dungeons are included in the Season 4 Mythic+ rotation. You can click here to vote to select two dungeons from among: Auchindoun, Bloodmaul Slag Mines, Everbloom, Grimrail Depot, Shadowmoon Burial Grounds, Skyreach, and Upper Blackrock Spire.

For Season 4 raiding, we’re imagining adding a progenitor-themed affix system to infuse some new mechanical twists into Castle Nathria, Sanctum of Domination, and Sepulcher of the First Ones. Our intention here would be to make all three raids relevant in Season 4, with increased difficulty and more powerful levels of raid loot dropping throughout all of them.

Feel free to reply here and let us know what you think of these experiments, and we’ll have more details on all of this for you soon. Also, please vote for your preferred Warlords of Draenor dungeons.

Thank you!

The Mage Tower Returns Permanently, Epilogue Campaign Chapter, Hotfixes March 21, 18, 17, 2022

Quite some news was released last night! The timewalking mage tower will finally be made available permanently starting with the reset of March 29th, in that same reset an Epilogue Judgement campaign chapter will be made available and there’s a new batch of hotfixes to cover that include more balance changes with the weekly reset!

The Mage Tower Returns Permanently

Quote from: Blizzard

UPDATE: When we originally developed the Legion Timewalking Bonus Event, we were looking for other fun features from Legion we could add to it. Timeworn Keystones were part of that, and the Mage Tower as well.

Having heard feedback and seen how it has played out, we agree that a personal skill challenge being available only for a short window of time every few months isn’t in the spirit of these types of events. As such, starting on the week of March 29, the Mage Tower will be accessible at any time, no longer tied to the Legion Timewalking Bonus Event.

      • Fixed an issue where if a player disconnected while carrying Bypass Codes, the code rune would disappear and be inaccessible for the Sanitizing Cycle phase.

Quests

  • Players who tell Tal-Inara that they have been to Zereth Mortis before and have already met Pocopoc will now receive the Enlightened reputation they would miss out on by skipping those quests.
    • Developers’ note: Enlightened reputation is strongly tied to the Zereth Mortis campaign, and we felt it was unfair to have a high hidden cost associated with using the dialogue option that skips the Zereth Mortis introductory quests for players who’ve already completed the introduction on other characters. This change addresses that by making the choice net neutral with regard to Enlightened reputation.

Quests

  • Characters who had the “Match Made in Zereth Mortis” quest incorrectly automatically completed and became blocked on the Campaign chapter will now have the quest available to them when they next zone into Zereth Mortis.
    • Developers’ note: Enterprising players who found a way to unlock all the teleporters in the area and proceed along the quest line without the quest will be allowed to proceed as normal, without needing to backtrack to this quest.
