Vigilant Guardian Normal Quickstart Guide

Vigilant Guardian is the first boss in the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid, if you’re looking to get into the raid but are unsure of what you need to do then fret no more! I’ve made a Quickstart Guide for the encounter to help you get going:

And if you prefer reading over watching a video here’s the text from the video guide:

Hey guys I’m Mezzy and welcome to this quickstart guide for Normal Vigilant Guardian, the first boss of the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid. Let’s get right into it!

The fight consists of 3 phases, of which the first one is an add phase.

The adds require energy to activate and when an add dies, its energy will be transferred to one nearby. So choose one of the three groups of powered down adds and start killing the adds as they spawn.

The boss will charge up energy and once it reaches 100 energy it will deal massive Exposed Core AoE damage. Kill enough adds so that the Automated Defense Matrix becomes active and stand in the shield it provides to survive the Exposed Core damage.

After Exposed Core ends the Defense Matrix will leave behind an unstable core. Pick it up and move it to the Vigilant Guardian. When you reach it you will get an extra action button to make it explode and deal 20% damage to the Guardian. To reach phase 2 you need to do this with all 3 cores from the Matrixes in the room.

Other than that, move out of the swirls from Refractured Blast.

When you get targeted by the red arrow, move it away from the group so you don’t get hit by Deresolution.

The raid will take some AoE damage from Radioactive Core every few seconds.

And in terms of further add management interrupt the Defense Drones Blast casts and as tanks face the Prefabricated Sentries away from the group so that Wave of Disintegration doesn’t hit them.

In phase 2 you will continue to have to dodge swirls on the ground.

When you get the Matter Dissolution debuff move it out of the group so that the orbs that spawn don’t spawn on top of you.

When the orb lines spawn, move away from them.

And tanks tank swap on the Pneumatic Impact debuff.

When you reach phase 3 at 15% health, the Guardian will channel an AoE that increases in damage every pulse. Use heroism and kill the boss off as quickly as possible.

And that’s all you need to know for the Vigilant Guardian!

For now I’m Mezzy, and I’ll see you again next time!

Hotfixes: March 14, 2022

The first hotfix batch of this week is a doozy! Plenty of nerfs and fixes for the raid and Tazavesh, and a bigger selection of things that you can get via the Great Vault! The biggest being a new item to socket season 3 gear!

      • You will now receive 2 tokens if you unlocked one Great Vault segment and choose the token reward.
      • You will now receive 4 tokens if you unlocked two Great Vault segments and choose the token reward.
      • You will now receive 6 tokens if you unlocked three or more segments of your Great Vault and choose the token reward.
    • [With realm restarts] Ko’tul in Oribos now offers many new items.
      • Ephemera-Infused Mesh – Add a socket to a Shadowlands Season 3 helmet, necklace, bracer, belt, or ring that does not already have a socket. Costs 6 Attendant’s Token of Merit.
      • Overflowing Chest of Riches – Rewards an average of 3,000 gold. Costs 3 Attendant’s Token of Merit.
      • Certified Vouchsafe – Increase your Renown with your current covenant by 1, up to the cap of 80. This item is bound to Battle.net account. Costs 1 Attendant’s Token of Merit.

      • Tribute to the Enlightened – Rewards 150 Reputation with the Enlightened. Costs 1 Attendant’s Token of Merit.
    • Developers’ note: These changes are aimed at improving the feeling of opening your Great Vault even on weeks when, for whatever reason, you don’t see a direct upgrade in the other items you can choose among. We’ve also heard feedback that, as a consolation prize, Attendant’s Tokens of Merit haven’t really felt rewarding enough to erase that frustration. Now in Season 3, we’re making the number of Tokens scale with the number of Vault slots you unlocked, up to a maximum of 6 Tokens per week (from 3 or more unlocked Vault slots). Furthermore, we’re adding additional options to the vendor, including an item that will add a socket to any eligible piece of Season 3 gear.
  • Old Warrior’s Soul trinket now only affects allies within your party and raid.

Player versus Player

  • Mage
    • [With realm restarts] Tempest Barrier’s (Conduit) absorb value reduced by 50% in PvP combat.
    • Fire
      • [With realm restarts] Flamecannon’s (PvP Talent) buff duration reduced to 3 seconds (was 5 seconds).
      • [With realm restarts] Pyrokinesis (PvP Talent) now causes Fireball to reduce the cooldown of Combustion by 2 seconds (was 3 seconds).
      • [With realm restarts] Tinder (PvP Talent) now reduces the cast time of your next Fireball by 30% (was 50%).
        • Developers’ note: In Season 3, Fire Mages have been overperforming across all skill brackets in rated PvP, and we will be reducing the power of commonly picked talents to better fit within other spec representation and performance. Additionally, we want to address Fire survivability, as stamina has increased with item level between seasons, and the absorb from Tempest Barrier has scaled higher than we’d like. So, we will be reducing the effectiveness of the conduit. We hope that these changes keep the overall feel of Fire in PvP intact, with a more reasonable power output. We look forward to seeing players unlock Class Set and double Legendary bonuses, and we will continue to monitor PvP balance as the season progresses.
  • Shaman
    • Enhancement
      • [With realm restarts] The healing increase to Maelstrom Weapon provided by Focused Lightning (Conduit) has been decreased by 70% while engaged in PvP combat.
        • Developers’ note: During the development of Eternity’s End, we provided a substantial increase to the effectiveness of the Focused Lightning conduit, targeted at bringing it in line with the damage potential of other potency conduit options. However, the healing provided by this conduit has increased Enhancement Shaman’s instant healing capabilities beyond what other similar non-healer specializations can bring to the table in PvP. A change to the healing portion of the conduit should allow other parts of the Enhancement Shaman healing kit to remain strong, and not affect the recent damage throughput increase to Focused Lightning.

Quests

  • Mawrats on the “Fleet-Footed and Fastidious” quest should appear more frequently.

Torghast, Tower of the Damned

  • Anima Powers
    • Paladin
      • Belt of the Mawsworn Avenger once again functions correctly.

Hotfixes: March 11, 2022

The week ended with a smaller batch of hotfixes mostly around fixing bugs but also increasing the minimum ilvl in the pvp Solo Shuffle and adding a new vendor to buy legendary powers from Castle Nathria.

Quote from: Blizzard

March 11, 2022

      • (4) Set Bonus: Fixed an issue where the free Heart Strike counterattack was providing more stacks of Endless Rune Waltz than intended during Dancing Rune Weapon.
  • Warlock
    • Destruction
      • (2) Set Bonus: Fixed an issue where Ritual of Ruin would cause the Infernal’s stun to be permanent.

    • Fixed an issue that could cause doors or bridges to block progress on a reset of the zone.
    • Skolex, the Insatiable Ravener
      • Skolex will no longer use Wormhole Jaws on Raid Finder difficulty.
    • Halondrus the Reclaimer
      • Fixed an issue causing druids’ Travel Form to sometimes disrupt the functionality of Volatile Charge on Mythic difficulty.
      • Fixed an issue causing certain spell visual effects to become invisible on hunters affected by Feign Death.
    • Lords of Dread
      • Spell visuals for Cloud of Carrion, Fearful Trepidation, and Infiltration of Dread should no longer be erroneously removed from a Hunter when they cast Feign Death.
  • Mythic+
    • Encrypted Affix
      • Fixed an issue where a set of relics could sometimes fail to all enter combat together.

Items and Rewards

  • Legendary Memories that were previously obtainable from only Castle Nathria can now be purchased from Rendle, who now also appears in both Castle Nathria and in Haven.
  • The Chronicle of Lost Memories now costs 15 Grateful Offerings from Covenant Vendors (was 30), or 1500 Catalogued Research from Archivist Roh-Suir (was 2000), or 400 Soul Cinders from Bonesmith Heirmir (was 600).

Player versus Player

  • Brawls
    • Solo Shuffle
      • While in Solo Shuffle, item levels of at least 142 will now be temporarily raised to a minimum of 239.
        • Developers’ note: We have applied a hotfix that will increase the item level of any item acquired in Shadowlands up to at least 239 while in Solo Shuffle (items above 239 are unaffected by this change). This change will only apply to the Solo Shuffle Brawl due to the unique nature of the game mode. We want players to be able to jump into this new experience right away, but a player with extremely low HP is quickly identified as an easy kill target for each round, resulting in a predictable match for all parties involved. We selected item level 239 to allow for gear acquisition and upgrades to still feel like meaningful power progression for a character.

Torghast, Tower of the Damned

  • Jailer’s Gauntlet (Layers 1—8) along with the newest Layers (13—16) for regular runs are now available in Group Finder.

Hotfixes: March 10, 2022

Yesterday the hotfixes continued with fixes to balance out the new raid, changing the way the new Mythic+ affix works and more.

  • Shaman

  • Sepulcher of the First Ones
    • Adjusting the location of devourers in Ephemeral Plains to help make pulls clearer and reduce the concentration of enemies.
    • Vigilant Guardian

      • Fixed an issue that caused the stone gates in the Shimmering Cliffs to not close properly when the encounter ends in failure.
  • Mythic+
    • Encrypted Affix
      • You now only need to destroy 1 relic to summon your desired automa. After destroying the first relic in a set, the other two are destroyed automatically.
        • Developers’ note: This should be a small quality of life improvement in terms of both the amount of damage required to summon an automa (especially on bosses), and the amount of time extra nameplates spend on the screen.
      • Fixed an issue where the wrong automa could be summoned after defeating a set of relics.
      • Adjusted the spawn locations of several Xy Relic Dealers.

        • Surgeon Stitchflesh
          • Fixed an issue that caused Stitchflesh’s Creation to hit Wo, Vy or Urh automa with Meat Hook.
            • Developers’ note: The Vy Interceptor frequently teleports to a new location, which can be a frustrating obstacle to a well-aimed Meat Hook during the encounter. This change should remove the unfair overlap of these two abilities.
  • Tazavesh: So’leah’s Gambit
    • Hylbrande
      • Vault Purifiers no longer immediately attack players as soon as they land.

Items and Rewards

Player versus Player

  • Fixed an issue with the trinket quest “A New Deal” that prevented the trinkets from being obtainable by players as intended.
    • Developers’ note: If you’re still encountering the issue and can’t see the trinket rewards, relogging back into the game should resolve it.
