Hey Guys I’m Mezzy and welcome to my guide for heroic Galakras. This is the 5th encounter in heroic Siege of Orgrimmar. I’m going to assume you know the normal mode mechanics. If you don’t you can check out my normal mode guide. You can click on the link in the annotation or in the description section.
This is another encounter that doesn’t change much. In fact there is only 1 mechanic change in phase 1 and 1 positioning change in phase 2. Everything of course has more health and does more damage which is your main concern in this encounter. You still have to kill the healing totems and the banners as soon as they spawn and besides interrupting the shaman’s heals you also want to interrupt their tidal waves as much as possible due to the damage that they now do.
The main mechanic change is that the demolition crew that opens the towers now have health and can be killed. After every new wave of adds that spawns a grunt will jump down from the tower and fixate on it to try and kill it. It can be stunned, slowed and rooted, but what you really need to do is just assign 2 dps to kill it whenever it spawns. Once it’s dead the dps can help out with killing the rest of the normal wave. One thing to note is that the demolition crew can be healed back up, so if they’re getting low on health call out for a healer to heal them up. Should a demolition crew die a new one will spawn, which has the consequence that the opening will have to start from 0% again meaning you’ll be in phase 1 longer.
Once the tower has been opened, do not go up straight away. Instead wait for the demolisher to spawn and kill it with all your dps. Once it’s down have the tower group go up the tower and clear it up. Now for the first tower we let 4 dps go up with a tank and healer to clear it up quicker. You should do this so that you have access to the cannon quicker, which you can use to kill the protodrakes in the sky which do damage to your raid. For the 2nd tower we used the regular 3 dps instead of 4.
Once you have both towers clear you still need to get galakras down by hitting him with both cannons at roughly the same time. You want to do this when the adds on the ground are about to die, or 5 seconds before the next wave spawns. If you have high enough dps this means you can go into phase 2 without any adds up, if you don’t but still manage to get him down right before a new wave spawns you could possibly still have to kill 1 remaining add before being able to switch to galakras, and if the timing is off and a new wave of adds spawns just as galakras is coming down it’s quite likely a wipe. If needed you could choose to let another wave of adds spawn and kill those off first if you feel you’d be risking it too much as some waves are much faster to kill than others.
In phase 2 you want to split your raid up into 2 groups, to split the flames of galakrond debuff so that not everyone starts taking large amounts of damage at the same time. These groups don’t have to be spread far though, so you can still be in healing circles like efflorescense and healing rain. When you get the flames of galakrond targeted on you be sure to move behind your group so that they get hit by it and reduce the impact damage. Should your group be getting them continuously and get to 4 or 5 stacks for example, you can and should move it over to the other group so that the debuff has a chance to fall off.
Once you get used to the increased damage and health you’ll see a kill quite quickly, so good luck! If you liked this video please comment and subscribe.
