Patch 10.1 In Development: Looking Ahead to Embers of Neltharion

Quote from: Blizzard

The stage is set for more adventures within the Forbidden Reach in the 10.0.7 content update. But much more is taking shape beyond those island shores as we delve deeper into the Dragon Isles with the next content update—Embers of Neltharion.

New Zone: Zaralek Cavern

Gather your courage as you venture into this mysterious underground cavern where you’ll explore, undertake new quests, meet intriguing new denizens, and experience new Dragonriding updates. Players will also encounter new rare and elite creatures and claim new treasures.

Deep beneath the Obsidian Citadel from which Neltharion once defended the Dragon Isles lies a vast hidden laboratory where the Earth-Warder conducted experiments… forbidden practices he wanted to conceal from the other Aspects. Within these halls lies the shadow chamber from which Neltharion first communed with the Old Gods, walking a path that would one day lead to his transformation into Deathwing.

While Raszageth has been defeated, the Primalists carry on in their bid to unravel all the Titans have wrought and must forge new alliances–or rekindle old ones.  As the heroes of Azeroth pursue enemies into the dangers of Zaralek Cavern, they are aided by the local inhabitants found under the Dragon Isles — the molefolk known as Niffen and the Drogbar. They may not know much of the surface wars, but their knowledge of the underground is key to players and their allies finding their  footing within.

New Raid Dungeon: Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible

Breach Neltharion’s secret laboratory hidden within Zaralek Cavern. It is here that he created the dracthyr and ultimately succumbed to the whispers of the Old Gods and their corruption.

Players will face nine new raid bosses in an effort to thwart the incarnates as well as Scalecommander Sarkareth, whose forces seek to claim the legacy of the dracthyr.

Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties will release simultaneously, and new class sets will be available to earn within this truly epic new raid dungeon.

New Rewards: Tier Sets

More Dragonriding

New traits, glyphs, and races will become available as you ride your drake through Zaralek Cavern and a new mount—the Winding Slitherdrake—can be earned along with its customizations as you continue your journey.

Dragonflight Season 2 Mythic+

Dragonflight Season 2 adds the remaining Dragonflight dungeons along with additional dungeons from previous expansions to the Mythic+ rotation, including:

  • Brackenhide Hollow
  • Halls of Infusion
  • Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr
  • Neltharus
  • Freehold, Battle for Azeroth
  • The Underrot, Battle for Azeroth
  • Vortex Pinnacle, Cataclysm
  • Neltharion’s Lair, Legion

New seasonal affixes are in development and will be available for testing later as a part of the PTR cycle.

Dragonflight: Return to the Forbidden Reach

Quote from: Blizzard

With the defeat of Raszageth  secured, a new opportunity to seek out and find answers about the dracthyr Evokers and their history arises within the Forbidden Reach. This max-level experience introduces new bosses and objectives, additional storms, new loot, and more.

Welcome to Morqut Village on the Morqut Islet

Every adventure in a new land has a starting point, and yours will begin on the Morqut Islet. You’ll find a variety of vendors and quest givers ready to send you on your first adventures within the Forbidden Reach.

You’ll want to keep your eye out for treasures and Bonus Objectives as you explore the mysteries of the Forbidden Reach. You never know what intriguing new items you’ll find and who will want to reward you for them.

Faction Envoys

Choose between the Dragonscale Expedition, Iskaara Tuskarr, Maruuk Centaur, and Valdrakken Accord to help each day to earn a 10% reputation increase for that faction. Envoys will occasionally offer quests for extra reputation and Elemental Overflow to spend at the Envoy traders for new rewards such as four new Dragonriding customizations, the Buckie battle pet, and the Noble Bruffalon mount.

New Treasures

Zskera Vault

The game is afoot and there’s treasure to be found in the Zskera Vault. Players will be able to enter a randomized treasure room to seek out the puzzles, monsters, and mysteries within. Each vault is unique to your character and available to complete until the next weekly reset. You’ll also be able to undertake a new vault quest each week from black dragon Voraxian, which will lead you through some long-buried history.

Keys Please

Pathfinder Jeb and Pathfinder Tacha will help you start your foray into the vault and provide your first 6 Zskera Vault Key but to gain access to more doors within the vault, you’ll need to search more of the Forbidden Reach to find them.

Each door within the vault will require its own key to gain access. Keys are Bind on Account so can be easily used by your alternate characters to continue your progress through the Vaults.

The Onyx Annulet and Primordial Stones

When you first venture into the Zskera Vaults, you’ll discover a quest for  an “Unusual Ring.” Delivering the ring to Researcher Imareth at Morqut Village will reward you with the Onyx Annulet. An experiment by Neltharion, you can infuse the Annulet with the power of the elements by socketing up to three Primordial Stones. These Primordial Stones can be found as you discover treasures in the vaults. Every combination provides new and interesting synergies between them allowing you to create interesting outcomes to aid you through the Forbidden Reach and beyond.

Here are two examples:

Humming Arcane Stone
Primordial Stone
Item Level 405-425
Binds when picked up
Unique Equipped
Humming Arcane Stone
Equip: Dealing Magic damage has a chance to fire Arcane missiles for each Primordial Stone family you have equipped, each dealing Arcane damage.
Storm Infused Stone
Primordial Stone
Item Level 405-424
Binds when picked up
Unique-Equipped
Storm Infused Stone
Equip: Critically striking an enemy has a chance to shock them and 2 nearby enemies, dealing Nature damage.

Primordial Stones can be crushed into fragments and repurposed into an item to upgrade your favorite stones (through your local jewelcrafter.) You can also use these fragments to purchase newer stones from Researcher Imareth. While you can’t buy specific stones, they come in families, so that you can target the ones you want.

Don’t worry about losing the Primordial Stones you’ve socketed. They can be swapped out for other stones without being destroyed.

New Event: Mega-Storm

The impact of Raszageth’s escape is still keenly felt near her prison, and Primal Storms consisting of the varying elements, continue to besiege the area outside her prison. Completing these storm events rewards adventurers with upgraded storms gear. You’ll also accumulate Elemental Overflow as you engage with the Forbidden Reach’s mysteries and creatures. Elemental Overflow can be exchanged for gear on the Morqut Islet or Mythressa in Valdrakken.

New Dragonriding Races

Take to the skies and soar through six new races within the Forbidden Reach. You’ll also gain access to some new Dragonriding abilities along the way. Be prepared for a little danger as you make your way through the courses—the sky is not yours alone.

New Pet Battles

Meet up with a Pet Battlemaster in the Forbidden Reach to undertake a new challenge and gain some new battle pets along the way.

Adventure Awaits

You just never know who you’ll meet as you travel through the Forbidden Reach. Proceed with caution or you may meet your fate with some of the dangerous denizens who have set up in the Reach.

Whether the Zskera Vaults and their mysteries call to you, learning more about the mysterious dracthyr Evoker, or facing challenging new foes, we look forward to seeing you in the Forbidden Reach.

      • [With weekly restarts] Icefury damage increased by 80%.
      • [With weekly restarts] Icefury causes Frost Shock to generate 14 Maelstrom (was 8).
      • [With weekly restarts] Frost Shock damage increased by 15% for Elemental only.
        • Developers’ notes: These changes are aimed at improving Elemental single target damage. We also felt that Icefury should deal more damage so that the spell is not solely focused on the follow-up Frost Shocks.

Player versus Player

  • Items
    • [With weekly restarts] Gladiator’s Distinction’ Stamina provided by the bonus increased by 40%
      • Developers’ note: Our goal for PvP pacing is for it to be fast, while leaving time for players to react; we’ve continued to see that overall PvP pacing has been faster than we would like, especially as players have been gaining increased offensive power through tier set acquisition, so we are adjusting the stamina bonus from Gladiator’s Distinction to help address this.
  • Classes
    • Hunter
      • [With weekly restarts] Improved Kill Shot now increases Kill Shot’s critical strike damage by 15% in PvP Combat (was 25%).
      • Marksmanship
        • [With weekly restarts] Razor Fragments now increases Kill Shot’s damage by 40% in PvP Combat (was 50%).

        • [With weekly restarts] Chimaera Shot damage increased by 45% in PvP Combat (was 30%).
          • Developers’ notes: Kill Shot critical strikes have been particularly deadly for Hunters, so we’re reducing the value of Improved Kill Shot. Marksmanship will be receiving several other adjustments to shift more of their damage profile into their base rotation.
    • Monk
      • Brewmaster
        • [With weekly restarts] Incendiary Breath (PvP Talent) now increases the Radius and Damage of Breath of Fire by 30% (was 100%).
          • Developers’ notes: Incendiary Breath’s radius increase has been difficult to read as a player and Brewmaster damage has been higher than we would like.
      • Windwalker
        • [With weekly restarts] Touch of Karma now redirects 105% of absorbed damage in PvP Combat (was 70%).
          • Developers’ notes: Touch of Karma’s redirect damage should be a strong deterrent to targeting a Monk while it’s active, and we feel that it was too weak previously.
    • Rogue
      • Assassination
        • [With weekly restarts] Hemotoxin (PvP Talent) healing reduction effect reduced to 30% (was 35%).
          • Developers’ notes: We felt that the Healing reduction effect from Hemotoxic was too strong, especially as it is easy to keep applied.
      • Outlaw
        • [With weekly restarts] Dispatch damage increased by 15% in PvP Combat.
          • Developers’ notes: Outlaw has been underperforming, so we’re increasing their finisher damage.
    • Shaman
      • Enhancement
        • [With weekly restarts] Converging Storms increases Stormstrike damage by 10% per stack in PvP Combat (was 25%).
        • [With weekly restarts] Lava Lash damage increased by 15% in PvP Combat.
        • [With weekly restarts] Stormstrike damage increased by 50% in PvP Combat (was increased by 30%).
        • [With weekly restarts] Windstrike damage increased by 50% in PvP Combat (was increased by 30%).
          • Developers’ notes: We’re looking to increase Enhancement’s consistent damage while reducing its high-end burst potential.
    • Warrior
      • Fury
        • [With weekly restarts] Rampage damage increased by 15% in PvP combat.
        • [With weekly restarts] Execute damage increased by 10% in PvP. Arms and Protection damage unchanged.
          • Developers’ notes: Fury Warriors’ offensive pressure has been notably lower than we would like, so we’re increasing Rampage and Execute damage.
